Marie Taglioni Fairy
This Marie Taglioni Fairy is a hand-carved and hand-painted recreation inspired by Queen Victoria’s series of ballerina dolls. The dancer Marie Taglioni (1804-84) is one of the most commonly featured ballerinas in the collection. This doll represents Marie Taglioni as a fairy in the ballet, 'La Sylphide' performed in Paris in 1832.
Marie Taglioni was a Swedish dancer who was considered a rock star in her day and revolutionized ballet as an art form.
She is the first ballerina to dance "en pointe." Marie Taglionin Fairy was dressed by her royal majesty’s governess, Baroness Louise Lehzen.
Our rendition of the Marie Taglioni fairy measures 6 3/4” inches tall and features fairy wings decorated with German glass glitter, a whisper light silk organza trimmed with gold thread, painted ballerina slippers and added organza wing decorations on her puff sleeves. She is is fully jointed and is made in a limited edition of 50.
Since each doll is hand painted, there will be small variations in each doll.
Each doll is signed by Charles Carver, the artist, and comes in its own decorated box with a laser engraved certificate of authenticity.
