Although open robes were the hot fashion du jour of the 1790’s, they were well worn until the early 19th century due to their popularity. They were worn mostly as evening dress w since they include a small train, but with shorter sleeves and a cotton fabrics, they could be worn over a day dress. Many examples of open robes are still found today in Museum collections.
