Dolly’s Travel Tunk

If you have the 2023 UFDC Souvenir doll “Dolly” but did not have the opportunity to purchase her companion travel trunk at the UFDC convention last summer, you can now purchase it directly from the UFDC shop on their website. (At the end of this article you will find a link.)

“Dolly’s” Travel Trunk includes everything a young pioneer doll needs for a covered wagon journey across the United States.

In it, she packed her favorite quilt to keep her warm during cooler nights. It was lovingly made for her with individual squares sewn together and an old glory-themed backing to reflect her patriotic spirit.

There are books to keep her company and a little night stand candle with which to read, a slate writing tablet to practice her ABC’s, and a straw basket to cradle her knitting and any other small necessaires she might find along the way.

She was sure to pack her long white cotton pioneer nightgown and night cap, her blue fourth of July dress and her hand-held American flag. The national flag had just added its 27th star that year after admitting Florida as the twenty-seventh state.

Also included is her white summer party dress with matching wide-brimmed hat, and, for any possible unforeseen fancy celebration, she included at the last minute her fancy floral party dress with matching sun bonnet.  The bonnet even has a tiny fancy pearl decorating the pink silk bow.

And, of course, she would never forget to be prepared for her favorite time of year, the Christmas season, for which she packed her special Christmas plaid dress and a hooded wool red cape.

All of her essentials and wardrobe fit inside her wooden trunk with a removeable tray where “Dolly” can neatly lay in to be tucked away.  A mid-nineteenth century map of the United States decorates the inside lid of her trunk so she can trace her westward journey along the marked route.

This enthusiastic pioneer doll sure has thought of everything she needs for her lengthy westward journey!

Look out for more Dolly patterns coming out in the Winter Doll News.
